What are your candles made of?All candles are 100% soy wax, free from paraffin, GMO and unnatural additives. Fragrance oils are phthalate -free fragrances, and we use natural cotton or wooden wicks, meaning you will be breathing in a clean burning scent. We implement low waste initiatives in the making of our candles.

Who makes the candles?All of our candles are handmade - by us! Each one will have its own unique identity and we can be 100% confident with the materials used.

Can I order a custom candle?Of course ! We can make candles to order using our signature floral scents and in different sizes and different vessels - glass, ceramic, pottery, tin, vintage china and crystal. When considering the size, think about where you may want to place your candle to enjoy it - next to your bed or beside a bathtub or in a living, open space area.

Can I refill a candle vessel that I have used up?You can! We offer a candle refillery service - ideal to refill those candle vessels that are a treasure and important to you. Pick from our range of floral scents, either a favourite or try something new. Contact us on info@socialscent.co.nz to order your refill.

How do I care for my candles?To ensure the best burn experience, trim the wick to 1/4 inch before each lighting and keep the candle away from drafts and flammable objects. For more detailed instructions, we have a candle care guide with 8 key things to consider.

What is included in your candle making workshops?We provide all the equipment and materials in a two-hour workshop where participants will make a medium sized candle (a choice of new or vintage containers) and two tea light candles. There are options to add on a wreath making experience as well as options for refreshments - just let us know what you would like!

Where are your candle making workshops held?Workshops can be held at a venue of your choice, or you can attend a workshop held in a beautiful garden setting in Martinborough.

How many people can attend your candle making workshops?Workshops are generally for between six to fourteen people, but we can cater for both smaller and larger groups, with some prior notice. Please get in touch with us on info@socialscent.co.nz to set up your perfect day!

Are your workshops suitable for children?Absolutely! We offer some children specific workshops in the school holidays for those aged 5+ but they are also more than welcome to attend any of our other workshops too!

What is the minimum number of people required for a private workshop?For private workshops the minimum number of people is four. Please contact us for a group rate if you have more than 14 people.

Do you offer private workshops for groups?Yes, we offer private workshops for groups such as birthday parties, team-building events, and bridal showers / hen parties. Contact us on info@socialscent.co.nz to arrange your perfect day!

How do I book a spot in a workshop?You can book a spot in one of our regular workshops by visiting our website and using the booking page. Spaces are limited, so we recommend booking early to secure your spot. Alternatively, if you have three friends that would be interested, you can get in touch using the booking form to arrange a private workshop!

What is Florigography?Floriography, or " the language of flowers" is the art of communicating through different flower types. All flowers hold different meanings, often based on the type of flower, the colour of the flower, or both. We have incorporated these meanings into our products and encourage you to explore them!
