First, a little apology—our Winter newsletter is arriving just as winter begins to wind down! Like many of you, we’ve been juggling our day jobs, sneaking in some winter sun escapes, and generally keeping busy.
It’s certainly been a soggy season, hasn’t it? We’re crossing our fingers that your gardens haven’t turned into swamps! But there’s hope on the horizon—spring is peeking through. We’re already spotting the first Earlicheer, Daphne, and blossom buds. Peony shoots and tulip leaves are pushing up, and daffodils are getting ready to put on their September show. It’s such a joy to see the garden waking up again.
🌸 A Little About Us
For those of you who are new to our community—welcome! We’re so glad you’re here.
We’re three friends who started the social scent company to share our love of candles, flowers, and the beautiful meanings behind them. Our work is inspired by Floriography, the language of flowers, and we pour that symbolism into everything we create—from our hand-poured candles to our floral workshops.
We love the creative process: selecting scents, foraging for foliage, growing blooms, and crafting pieces that bring joy. Through our workshops across Wellington, Kāpiti, and Wairarapa, we invite you to slow down, reconnect, and create something beautiful—whether it’s a floral-scented candle or a seasonal wreath.
Our Martinborough garden workshops are especially serene, offering a peaceful space to unwind and enjoy nature’s rhythm.
🕯️ Workshops for Every Occasion
We offer both scheduled and private group workshops—perfect for hens parties, baby showers, birthdays, or just a weekend with friends. Our workshops are mobile, child-friendly, and can come to a venue of your choice.
We also sell a range of 100% soy wax candles, accessories, and gift boxes through our website. Every purchase helps us give back—funding free workshops and products for community groups. If you know of a group that could benefit, please reach out!
🌼 Flower Highlight: Wintersweet
One of the stars of our Martinborough winter garden is Wintersweet (Chimonanthus praecox)—a fragrant delight when most plants are still sleeping. Its waxy yellow blooms release a sweet, lemony scent with hints of rose and hyacinth.
In Eastern cultures, Wintersweet symbolises purity, renewal, and enduring love—a perfect reminder that spring always follows winter. In the language of flowers, it represents the joy of first love and lasting affection.
❄️ Mid-Winter Moments
Despite the rain, we had a wonderful time at two mid-winter events: Winter’s Day Out in Palmerston North and the Winter Christmas Carnival in Greytown. We welcomed guests from as far as Dunedin and Hamilton—thank you for joining us and for your beautiful creations!
We also had the privilege of hosting a wreath-making workshop at Wellington Women’s House. It was a lovely, relaxed session filled with conversation and creativity. Every wreath was unique and made with dried florals—many from our own gardens. Thank you to everyone who supports us—you help make these moments possible.
