Winter so far has been relatively mild, with some gorgeous sunny days—balanced by a fair share of stormy and wet weather too. The unpredictability has kept everyone guessing and created a little confusion in our gardens! We’re already seeing early spring flowers popping up, and even roses that have just been pruned are budding again. While we know there’s still plenty of chilly weather ahead in July and August, we’re looking forward to seasonal treats like the beautiful perfume of Winter Sweet, filling our homes with its glorious scent. In the meantime, we’ve been busy drying and pressing our autumn flowers, ready to use in upcoming workshops. ![]() |
🌸 Flower Highlight: HelleboresWhile winter gardens can sometimes feel a little bleak, hellebores are a true highlight—brightening shady areas when little else is in bloom. Often called Winter Roses, they flower through to early spring and come in gorgeous shades of pink, white, light green, deep purple, and red. In the language of flowers, hellebores have a fascinating dual meaning. They can symbolise peace, serenity, and resilience—or, conversely, delirium, anxiety, and even scandal! Because they bloom in the coldest months, they are also closely associated with hope and the ability to thrive through adversity. In Victorian floriography, gifting hellebores was thought to help relieve anxiety. As with many flowers, the specific colour can refine the message. We love gathering and pressing hellebores to use in our candle decorating and workshops. ![]() |
